Rapid high-tech innovation for our client
Innovation runs deep in our engineering DNA. When our client (whose name we cannot disclose due to a non-disclosure agreement) asked us to help de-risk a bold mechatronic innovation, our engineering hearts started beating faster. The challenge: prove the feasibility of their idea with a working demo in just three months and within a fixed budget.
Open and transparent co-creation
The client’s engineering team had reached the limits of what could be handled in-house due to the high-tech complexity involved, so they asked us to step in. Recognising the challenge’s pace and precision, we teamed up to combine expertise and capacity. Working as one joined team, we built an open and transparent collaboration grounded in trust and shared focus.
With two mechanical designers, one mechatronic engineer, a project leader and colleagues from Nobleo Manufacturing, we started the challenge. Due to the tight timeline, we focused on the core innovation: establishing RPCs and a ranking system to converge on the optimal solution. To assess manufacturability and feasibility, we produced 3D prints of key concept variants.
Structured fast-line engineering
A great idea is not yet a working system. We applied a structured, fast-line approach: identifying risks, defining requirements and translating them into an actionable design. Due to the strong efforts of the team, the time between first brainstorm and a mechanically assembled workpiece was just two months, including the design of custom-milled parts, actuator and sensor selection and setting up control software to actuate the system.
But a nicely assembled high-tech solution is not a working demo. Time for integration of the electronic parts and the designed software. Debugging, rigorous testing and swift problem-solving were essential to successfully integrate the hardware into the client’s system. After implementing the client’s final wishes and customising the prototype, we were able to present a successful demo to stakeholders.
