Cost-efficient and practical design, that’s what we aim for every day! To keep improving our hands-on knowledge of sheet metal and tubing design, our mechanical engineering team paid a short visit to Feijen Metaaltechniek B.V. (FMT).

Learning from FMT's experts

FMT is a well-established Dutch company with more than 60 years of experience and was the first in the Netherlands to own and use a sheet metal laser cutting machine. Today, their team of over 50 professionals works with an impressive range of modern machines, specialising in laser and waterjet cutting, bending and welding of sheet metal and tubing. As a supplier to many sectors, it is an interesting partner to visit.

After getting acquainted, we were quickly off to a full-on factory tour by Jan Feijen and John Feijen that gave us a close-up look at their capabilities. During this 2h tour we discussed examples of good and poor design, PMI/MDB TPD vs on the floor quality control, cost calculation insights and many practical tips and tricks to make parts more suited for manufacturing. This all fits within out frame to enhance our DfX skills.

Many thanks to Jan Feijen and the entire FMT team for sharing their knowledge and passion with us!
